The Science (Without the Boring Part)
We usually aim for that 253.7nm wavelength. Why? Because that’s the sweet spot where the light actually breaks the molecular bonds of germs. But here’s the catch: you can’t just use any glass. Standard glass blocks UVC entirely. You need high-purity quartz. If you try to cut corners with cheap quartz, your output drops and the lamp burns out way too fast because it can’t handle the heat. It’s just not worth the risk.

UV-C is great for killing bacteria, but it’s brutal on human skin and eyes. You can’t ignore the safety side of things. The Big Trade-off: Power vs. Long Life
It’s a balancing act. Sure, a 30W lamp clears a room faster than a 15W one. But that extra power creates a lot more heat. If your housing doesn’t have enough vents, the tube temperature spikes.
