
In busy public spaces, disinfection robots can’t sit around waiting. The holdup is usually the UVC source: if the irradiance isn’t there, you’re forced to slow the traverse, which stretches cycle time and kills battery life. We built a Replacement gallium lamp for exposure systems to hit the UVC intensity needed to cut cycles short—without giving up lethality. What matters under the hood The lamp is gallium-doped and leans hard on the 254 nm germicidal peak, with strong electrical-to-UVC conversion efficiency. That gives you the energy density required for rapid inactivation. The quartz envelope is tuned for UVC transmission and keeps ozone generation in check. Paired with a reflector assembly using a dichroic coating, the output is collimated so dose stays uniform across the target plane. You’re looking at stable output over 9,000 hours, with less than 8% depreciation—data we’ve confirmed on spectral radiometers. Peak irradiance hits tens of mW/cm² at typical working distances, which is exactly what lets you shrink the exposure window. Why this fits disinfection robots In this application, speed is throughput. More UVC irradiance means the robot can move faster while still hitting the required microbial reduction, so cycle time drops. The lamp warms up quickly and holds a consistent spectral output, which makes intensity modulation practical: the robot can scale power to match surface reflectivity and occlusion, keeping dose accurate. Fewer passes. Lower energy draw. And longer intervals between lamp swaps—all of that matters when your fleet has to stay up and running. The details that bite you if you ignore them Match the lamp to the fixture—arc length, base, and ballast. If the ignition profile doesn’t line up, you’ll get flicker and the lamp will die early. Check the reflector. Pitting or oxidation scatters output and wrecks dose uniformity. Keep thermal management in order. UVC sources run hot, and sustained high temperature accelerates output decay. And make sure your radiometer is calibrated at 254 nm. Dose decisions need to be traceable, not guessed.
